NCLS Free Legal Advice Service

Please could agencies signposting clients to the Tuesday and Friday Free Legal Advice service ask them to arrive no earlier than 10am please. Booking for appointments does not start until 10.30am however an increasing number of clients are arriving before 9.30am. This leaves them with a long wait and creates difficulties for the volunteers who run the reception for the service. Many thanks for your assistance.

Free energy advice training for frontline staff

Citizens Advice have been awarded funding to provide FREE training for front line staff and volunteers to enable them to provide advice on energy issues to clients they support through their day-to-day work. Get in touch to arrange a training session - they can cover cover Diss, Thetford, Eye, Loddon, Long Stratton, Harleston and surrounding districts.

New Routes are recruiting a treasurer

New Routes Integration is looking for an experienced accountant/treasurer to join the charity’s Executive Board to manage the organisation's accounts and end of year financial statements. The organisation is funded on an individual project basis from a number of different funders with different reporting requirements. The board meets bi-monthly at 6pm on the first Monday, with occasional additional meetings. They would like the position filled as soon as possible.

Leeway Power to Change Programme

It is based on the idea that women working together in a safe, friendly and supportive environment can change their lives for the better. Leeway provide the service across Norfolk.

Norfolk Family Mediation Service

The Norfolk Family Mediation Service is a ‘not for profit’ service in central Norwich who provide family mediation to assist separating families. They have a legal aid franchise and individuals can be assessed as to eligibility. It is a requirement, since 2014, that any person wishing to make an application to the family court must have attended an assessment meeting ( MIAM-Mediation and assessment meeting) to merely explore the option of mediation.

Changes to the 4women Resource Centre Service
22.02.2017
As of mid-March 4women is moving to new premises at Heath House, 5 Woolgate Court, St Benedict's Street, Norwich, NR2 4AP. This move will enable Home Group to continue delivery of the Criminal Justice Contract with Norfolk and Suffolk Community Rehabilitation Company (Sodexo) as well as provide direct access social inclusion support for all women.

West Norfolk Housing Advice service open to referrals
25.01.2017
The West Norfolk Housing Advice service welcomes referrals for anyone with housing issues. Just complete a simple 1 page referral form and email the form to WNPHousingAdvice@homegroup.org.uk or call 01553 223113 and make a referral over the phone. The client will be contacted and will be offered advice and/or given up to 4 appointments to sort the issue out. If that is not sufficient, they will be referred to the most appropriate agency in the West Norfolk Advice partnership.

DHP & Rent Arrears - Norwich City Council

From January until March, Norwich City Council will consider applications from RSL’s or recognised Advice Agencies regarding one-off payments to be used to reduce or clear rent arrears from the Discretionary Housing Payments fund (DHP). Applications will close on 15th March 2017.

Police promote a collaborative approach to operation gravity

The Police have published advice and guidance for those working with vulnerable people, in particular those working in local authority and social housing, around what to do if you suspect a vulnerable person is being exploited by drugs gangs. They have produced a short presentation on what the issues are, what to look for and what you can do.

The Advice UK ‘learning to advise’ 10 day course
04.01.2017
If there is interest from other agencies, we could have Advice UK deliver their comprehensive ‘learning to advise’ course in Norfolk. This would save delegates having to travel to London for the 10 day course. Advice UK would charge their members rate for the course; the total cost would be £7840 for the whole programme including material and course certificates. This cost would be shared between delegates so the more interest there is, the less it would cost. Advice UK can start this course February 9th. Drug gangs using properties of vulnerable people in Norfolk
EDP, 14.12.2016
Properties where vulnerable people are being exploited by drug gangs will be a focus of a new operation from Norfolk Police aimed at ending the surge in violence associated with the trade. The Police warned that “Drug dealers use a range of tactics such as violence or exploiting vulnerable individuals by taking over their homes. They also prey on adolescents, some of whom are already involved in the drugs lifestyle either directly or through their family, by getting them to conceal the drugs". The Police have also acknowledged that vulnerable people will need to be supported; “We know that to end the cycle of violence we need to support those caught up in this type of criminality and we have to approach these issues from a multitude of angles.”

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner in Norfolk (OPCCN) established an Accommodation Sub-group in September 2015 which brought together key statutory, voluntary and specialist partners to develop an action plan to continue to improve access to accommodation for offenders in Norfolk in response to the changes implemented through the Transforming Rehabilitation agenda.
