Stonham HomeStay Floating Support Service Closure Announced
12.04.2017
After ten years of successful delivery of housing-related support to over 25,000 clients, the Stonham HomeStay floating support contract, delivered by Home Group, will close on 30th November 2017.  Due to continuing austerity measures, Norfolk County Council agreed recommendations to remove funding from all their existing floating support contracts at their full council meeting on 20th February 2017.

18 to 21 year olds risk losing housing cost element of UC
12.04.2017
The Government has introduced regulations from April 1st 2017 - 18 to 21 year olds will no longer be entitled to the housing cost element of Universal Credit, unless they can prove they meet an exemption. This explicitly includes victims of domestic violence, care leavers and young parents. It also includes those for whom ‘in the opinion of the Secretary of State it is inappropriate to live with each of their parents.’ The Government will be producing an ‘Advice to decision makers’ document to clarify who this includes and how exemptions will be administered.

Lorne Green has published his first Police and Crime Plan as Norfolk's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC). The Plan, which sets seven core priorities for Norfolk, outlines the PCC's vision for tackling and preventing crime, protecting the most vulnerable and supporting victims.

Citizens Advice, King's Lynn Office has moved
07.04.2017
The King's Lynn branch of Norfolk Citizens Advice has moved into its new home in Hanse House off the South Quay. It is open from 10am to 2pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Access to Hanse House (PE30 5GN) is from St Margaret's Place, or from the riverside on South Quay. The team is in urgent need of more volunteers to train for a variety of roles, not just advice work, but also in the reception area and to help with background administration. Plans published to reform DWP offices

The DWP has proposed merging 78 smaller Jobcentre Plus offices with larger ones nearby and co-locating around 50 Jobcentre Plus offices with local authorities or other community services to provide joined-up services. Proposals include closing the Kings Lynn Job Centre at Lovell House and co-locating the Kings Lynn Job Centre at Kings Court. The Job Centre in Thetford would also be co-located and the Centre for Health and Disabiltiy Assessments at St Mary's House, Norwich would be closed under these proposals.

Major boost to support those fleeing domestic abuse

The DCLG has announced that a bid by Norwich City Council and Leeway, for almost £100,000 and a separate bid by West Norfolk, North Norfolk and Breckland, alongside Leeway, also for £100,000 have both been sucessful. This will fund full-time domestic abuse case workers to provide immediate support to those in need and additional beds. The funding will also go towards longer term support for those in need, in the form of a rent guarantee scheme that will help women move into rented accommodation.

Help Through Crisis Project

A new project led by Citizens Advice Mid Norfolk is helping people in Breckland and South Norfolk get the help they need when faced with a number of crisis situations ranging from threat of eviction, threatening behaviour by a loan shark, stopped benefits, through to the basic need of emergency food. The five year Lottery funded project ‘Mid & South Norfolk Advice & Support’ uses ‘Advice Champions’ to help people navigate around the specialist agencies and deal with their immediate crisis whilst keeping in touch with them and helping them avoid a repeat of the situation.

Shelter Carol Service

Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity, is holding their first ever Christmas carol service in Norwich at St Peter Mancroft Church on Tuesday 20th December. The evening will feature performances from Norwich Young Voices and The Orchestrate! Project, with readings from special guests.

Devolution in Norfolk and Suffolk

A consultation on the proposed devolution deal in Norfolk and Suffolk is open.  Devolution would see the transfer of certain decision-making powers and funding down from Central Government to a local area.
