Two new funding opportunities:
The BIG Innovation fund
The BIG Innovation fund is specifically about supporting new projects that test new ways of tackling emerging and existing social problems. The idea is considered as ‘new’ if it hasn’t been tried anywhere else in the UK.
By innovative, they mean projects that create:
* New kinds of activity and service to tackle new or emerging social needs
* New ways of addressing a current social problem
The programme will award grants of between £20,000 and £1 million for projects running up to five years that seek to achieve both of the following outcomes:
* New solutions are delivered which better address emerging and entrenched social problems
* Learning from innovative approaches is used to inform wider policy and practice

Managing Money Better – Comic Relief’s New Older People's Programme
Comic Relief are making £2m available in 2012 for projects which help older people cope with the challenging financial climate and the exclusion and hardship they may be facing. They want to hear about ideas that can bring about substantial improvements to older people’s lives; to support them to build their skills and knowledge, to manage their money effectively, to guard against financial scams and abuse, and to deal with cold homes.
They are opening two grant cycles in 2012 – in January and April. They’re looking to fund organisations who have some experience of working in this area, as well as those that involve older people in the design and delivery of the activities. They will favour projects that develop strategic partnership approaches with voluntary, private and public organisations including local people (of all ages) to meet the needs of older people. And who also ensure that their funding targets isolated older people and those who live in the poorest and most deprived areas.
